Pace converter
This pace to speed converter switches a running pace or speed between km/h, min/km, min/mi and mph, so you never have to do the arithmetic between a treadmill display, a race pace and a GPS watch reading. Pick the unit you're starting from, enter the value, and get all four figures plus a full reference table from 6 to 22 km/h.

How it works
Speed and pace are reciprocals of each other: pace in minutes per kilometre is 60 divided by speed in km/h, and the calculator applies that relationship internally in km/h regardless of which unit you typed the value in.
Converting between kilometres and miles then just scales that speed by 1.609344, the exact definition of a mile in kilometres, before flipping back to a pace if that's the unit you want to read.
The table below lists 6 to 22 km/h in 0.5 km/h steps with both pace columns alongside, useful for reading off a treadmill speed's equivalent outdoor pace without typing anything.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert running pace to speed?
Divide 60 by your pace in minutes per kilometre to get km/h, for example a 5:00/km pace is 60 ÷ 5 = 12 km/h. This calculator does that conversion instantly and also gives you mph and min/mi from the same input.
What speed is a 6 minute mile?
A 6:00 min/mi pace converts to about 10 mph, or roughly 16.1 km/h. Enter 6 with the unit set to min/mi and the calculator returns all three other units at once, including the min/km equivalent, useful when a treadmill or a coach gives you a target in one unit and your watch shows another.
Why do treadmills show speed but races use pace?
Treadmills set a constant belt speed, so km/h or mph is the natural control, while races are run over a fixed distance where the useful number is time per kilometre or mile. This converter bridges the two so a treadmill session lines up with an outdoor pace target.
