How it works
With a negative split of 0 %, every segment gets an equal share of the pace needed to hit your target time exactly, so the even-pace split shown above the table is just your target time divided by the number of segments.
A positive negative split percentage shifts pace linearly across the race: earlier segments run a little slower and later segments a little faster, while the total time still lands exactly on target. Many marathon coaches recommend a small negative split, often 1 to 3 percent, to avoid the fade that comes from starting too fast.
Segments are measured in whole kilometres or miles depending on the unit you pick, with the final partial segment scaled to whatever distance remains, so the splits always sum to the full race distance and target time.
